Well it was a great weekend! The weather could have been more perfect, we arrived in good time on saturday afternoon, got out the tents and put them up in the field. While the BBQ was getting ready we setup the stage. It was a nice size, so we were not too cramped even though we had more kit that normal because we dug out the old bass bins for the PA.
I was really surprised, cos the stage acted like an ampitheatre - the sound really projected well so we didn't need to have too much volume, although the neighbours didn't appreciate even that volume on the saturday - so we called it quits for the night and sat round the tents playing accoustic guitars - Carl even got his flute out - till 1am! oops hope we didn't annoy too many people, we really didn't realise the time!
So the big day arrives - the first ever Lambstock (hopefully not the last!) And I get the list of acts for the day. It really was a showcase of the local talent first then we would go on last. So I doubled up as stage manager and roadie for the day - which was kinda fun and frustrating at the same time. I wanted everyone to sound great but there just wasn't enough time between each act to get the levels right, so I had to play around a lot.
The first act had an enormous Hammond organ which sounded great! Then then we had everything from old folk songs to Muse to prog rock style with just a keyboard and guitar.
Finally just before we went on, Mike Dobbie blew us away with his set, starting off with accoustic versions of U2's where the streets have no name & danny boy into his own songs - I guess we'll forgive him for stealing carl! lol
By the time we were due to go on, I was getting a little worried tho! It had gone very cold and although the music was awesome, the crowd had shrunk as everyone tried to warm up! But we shouldn't have worried at all, by the time we had been annouced everyone was back and in great spirits to dance the night away - and they did none stop till 11pm. Despite a few hiccups at the start - including the stage catching fire!!! the whole evening was great and a big thanks goes out to Graham for organising it so well (oh yeah, and getting all that lovely cider!!!)
We hope to come back next year for Lambstock 2008!!
